Do You Need A Blog?
How important is a blog to your site's success?
Unlike quality writing, I wouldn’t go so far as to say every website on the internet needs a blog. If you're considering it, you might have knowledge you want to share with the wide webby world, or you may want to cash in on the SEO wins.
If you have the budget, and if you’re going to spend some time (or money) keeping your blog going or at least updating existing posts—as opposed to scheduling a few over the course of a couple of months and then forgetting about it—then I would encourage any business to add this layer to their content arsenal. Here’s why.
1. A blog brings people to your site.
Research shows search engines are the top way consumers find new products in 2023. That means it’s more important than ever to play the always-fluctuating Google game and stand out among similar companies so you can grab the eye of potential clients.
Even if you buy ad space to ensure you pop up at the peak, you need to offer some specific benefit to clicking your link. This can look like echoing their questions back to them in the post title (think long-term key phrases) or making sure your meta description (the text that shows up below the title in the search results) really drives home that benefit.
Then, make sure the post itself delivers what you promised. People bouncing off your page within seconds of landing gives search engines some not-so-flattering info about your site, too.
2. A blog proves you know your stuff.
Are you a hack just trying to make a quick buck selling vegan cheese? You know you’re not, and I know you’re not, but Sam Web Search doesn’t know that.
Keeping a blog (or other content besides product descriptions) indicates to potential customers that you’re an expert in the product or service you’re selling.
Most of us are more likely to buy vegan cheese from a company that blogs about their process, ingredients, or reasons for existing than we are to order from one with nothing but a sales page. Even if a visitor to your site doesn’t take the time to read your posts, just knowing that info exists adds a comforting legitimacy.
3. A blog shows you’re human and encourages interaction.
Of course, the kind of blog you have depends on the personality of your company. In the same way that an About Us page shows visitors whether your vibe is sternly stoic or laugh-and-a-half, a good blog will give customers or clients a solid sense of who you are as a business.
You can blog the same way you interact with your customers, whether that’s sarcastic and bad puns or serious and briskly informative, assuming, of course, you’ve done your research and that voice matches your target audience.
A blog is also a great way to encourage readers to respond, and reminding readers you’re a real person on the other side of the screen increases the likelihood that business-related queries will lead to new clients.

So, no, you don’t need a blog on your website. However, if you want to further customer interaction and boost your organic SEO in an engaging way, it’s definitely something to consider.
